High-grade ripe pu-erh cake from the Ming Dee Thai factory. As always, only old trees! Pressed in 2013, years of aging in Thai mountains. However, its maturity is not why we fell in love with it.

Unlike its brother, which is a lower grade (3 leaves and few buds), this specimen has only a bud and two leaves inside. Look at the cake crack, there are buds all over. This is not a Chinese-style coating, everything is quite even here. Thai farmers just pressed the material as is.

The high-grader’s taste is denser than the one of the 3-leaves variant. It feels like the same familiar profile but processed by a flavor compressor. And then spiced with chocolate and fragrant wood. This shu brews instantly and holds many infusions. The softness and smoothness, the trademark of Ming Dee factory’s ripe pu-erhs, is present here at full strength.

If you love ripe pu-erhs but think there are no differences between Thais and Chinese, then try this one, you will see the difference.

The cake is easily disassembled by hand, and the material quality is uniform throughout. The aroma is reminiscent of baked chestnuts and roasted hazelnut skin. The brew is immediately dense, oily, and very well-rounded, with no astringency. Overall, very good quality and definitely worth the money.

I'd say it's superior to many Chinese should puers I've had (and I've tried hundreds of them). The taste is mellow, somewhat subdued but still rich and nuanced - you will not get bored even with a whole cake. And the best part is the cha qi that is very mellow and balanced. Plantation shou teas often make me a little jittery but that rarely happens with old tree teas like this one. A little pricy but wort it

Indeed superior to the 2015 HTC ripe
It is very nice to drink now, though I'm planning on buying a couple of cakes for aging as it seems very suitable for that (considering my acquaintance with Thai ripes)
